Making A Living Blogging

If you know me, or at least of me, then you know that I'm a blogger. I specialize in blogging for wineries and restaurants because as a writer blogging has the most benefits and rewards for businesses. I'll go into more detail on that in a future post. But there are several ways to make money blogging too. It's about more than just publishing what you have to say, though that is a major bonus to blogging.

Some ways to make a living blogging are
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Guest Posting
  • Trade
  • Blogging For Businesses
Affiliate marketing can be a great way to put ads on your blog and the pay per click return depends all on your level of traffic that you can generate. Only down fall is that you have to be good at broadcasting your blog on social media channels and search engines. Also, researching the businesses you are dealing with and knowing the stipulations and requirements for their program will be necessary so that you know what you are getting into before hand.

Guest posting can be fun too. Connecting with other bloggers and receiving a stipend for your post on their sites can be challenging to find but will also help generate more traffic for your own blog. Blogging and freelancing is all about connecting with other people and the relationships you maintain. So guest posting can really help increase your network while helping out newbie bloggers. The pay may not be great but it definitely helps with syndication.

Blogging for trade is also a good way to go if you find a need for a product or just would like to try it out. Quite a few businesses will give you a product to try in return for a blog post either for their site or to be syndicated on your own. This can also come in the form of a review for a website or brand. Some may like your work enough to pay you for your time and efforts.

Blogging for businesses is my favorite and more in my line of work. Medium sized businesses generally have more of a budget for increased marketing and need more B2B connections. This type of blogging definitely makes a better living but it is more challenging to gain a good client list. Plus, it helps the company's social media by having something to share with their social media following and in their email marketing.

As I said in my previous post, not many people or brands realize the value of a good writer. If you are in business as a freelancer or entrepreneur it is your job to get them to understand your value and that's the challenge of being in business for yourself. Treating your blog as a business can be tricky as I know so many who view it more as a hobby. And while the rewards for blogging may be slow to start but they do inevitably reap more rewards than you can imagine.
